This week has been interesting. I moved to soft food, which is anything a fork can go through and I went back to work. My advice if anybody is doing this, go back half day for the first week. By 8pm on Tuesday, I was in bed asleep, this continued for Wednesday and Thursday. I’ll be in bed early tonight as I’m tired. Of course, weight restrictions are still in place for another 13 days. 10lbs is not that much if you’re doing your normal daily routine.
I’m recovering much better than I thought I would have. 18 days out and I’ve taken 2 pain meds, zero for nausea or vomiting.
Food wise, lots of soft food, Tuna salad, chicken salad, I had a piece of sweet potato, yogurt, soft fruit and the like. again, anything a fork can smoosh through.
I’ve noticed in the morning that I’m hungry, so I’m going to have to have the protein shake around 8pm or so That should satiate me. The goal ultimately is to get 60-80 grams of protein a day. This is not weight grams, but nutritional grams.
Nutritional grams of protein (not a complete list)
- Lean meat (fish, seafood, poultry, beef, pork). 1 oz by weight. 7g
- Low-fat cheese 1oz by weight. 7g
- Beans (kidney, pinto, lentils). 1/4 cup 3.5g
- Peanut butter. 1 tablespoon. 4g
Protein is the foundation of our bodies. We need it to heal and to preserve muscle mass when in recovering from surgery.
