I’m heading toward 4 weeks post op next week. I’m finally starting to get hungry, but not the way I remember hunger feeling. It is a hollow feeling in my abdomen that starts to ache. It really is an odd feeling. I also find that if I skip one of my “snacks” and I don’t drink enough water, I hurt. I hurt until I drink water or eat something.
Right now my consumption is as follows:
- 06:30 – 07:00 1/2 – 3/4 cup fluid
- 07:30 – 08:00 Breakfast (3-4 ounces) Scrambled Egg and 1/2 small banana
- 10:00 – 10:30 Snack 1/4 cup yogurt and small fruit
- 11:00 – Noon 1/2 – 3/4 cup fluid
- 12:30 – 13:00 Lunch (3-4 ounces) 3-4 ounces of chili
- 13:30 – 14:30 1/2 – 3/4 cup fluid
- 15:00 – 15:30 1/4 cup yogurt and small fruit
- 16:00 – 17:00 1/2 – 3/4 cup fluid
- 17:30 – 18:00 Dinner (4 ounces) 2 Ounces of mean, 2 ounces of vegetables
- 18:30 – 19:30 1/2 – 3/4 cup fluid
- 20:00 – 20:30 Protein Drink Low-sugar protein powder mix with low fat milk
- I typically skip this and drink my protein drink in the morning
- 21:00 – Bedtime up to 1 cup of water (8 ounces
All of this changes on Wednesday the 30th. The times remain about the same, but I’ll be adding some cheese, whole grains, all fruit and all meat. To this point, I have been sticking to ground turkey and chicken.
Also, fiber will be increased slowly to avoid gastrointestinal discomfort. Food consumption will be increased from 4 ounces a meal to 8 ounces per meal. The fluid goal will increase to 64 ounces between meals.
I’m comfortable with where I am as far as eating. I’m a little nervous to start adding other stuff to my day, but I’m sure I’ll be fine.
