In weightless surgery we have something called NSV, this stands for Non Scale Victories. I have had quite a number of these victories. Personally my NSV’s have been bloodwork, being able to walk and not huff and puff or my most recent NSV which I will get into in a bit.
I do a number of must do’s annually. Mammogram, GYN appointment, dental cleanings, physician and of course the all important eye exam.
I tend to do everything around the same time of the year so that I remember to do them and everything gets done in the same 2 weeks or so. Mammogram will be scheduled in October due to COVID.
This week I completed the all important eye exam. Over the past few years, I’ve gone from needing glasses for driving (distance vision) to progressive lenses for working on the computer and reading. My doctor does a comprehensive set of tests, including eye pressures. The past 3 years, my eye pressures have gone from low 20’s to high 20’s (27). She has been concerned that she may have to send me for additional testing due to the number being high. This is called Ocular Hypertension
I never remember all these numbers, I simply listen and do what they say. In the all important exam, my distance vision has improved. YAY, I have noticed it a little, but really just thought It was odd. We did near sighted and I do need glasses for reading and working on the computer. But the exciting news is, my eye pressures are now 11 and 13. My doctor was absolutely surprised, she looked at me as asked what have I done. I explained that my A1C has dropped from 6.4 to 5.1 and she said that can absolutely contribute to it. As Diabetes and eyes are closely linked. I also told her I have shifted to a WFPB diet and she says that can absolutely have helped with this too.
So needless to say, I’ve had a huge NSV this week. I was really not looking forward to working on getting that number down.
On the WFPB note, I have really started cooking more Indian food or food with Indian flavors. I’m by no means a great cook, but I am loving the flavors of all the spices I have been experimenting with. This week I ventured to the Indian area of Houston called Mahatma Ghandi District https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mahatma_Gandhi_District,_Houston
I will be exploring the little area to find the best and freshest spices. I did find cocktail potato samosas. They look just like those from SA, but they’re minute. I did manage to find Black Urad. This is black lentils i’l be using ot make Dal Makhani. I’ll post the recipe when / if it is successful.
